History Timeline

1969:  Di Giorgio and Borrego Springs business interests  propose paving Coyote Canyon road.
 
1982:  At the south side of Borrego Springs Di Giorgio begins construction on the 3,000 + acre resort Rams Hill Country Club.  Rams Hill was a semi-private course.
 
1988:  Rams Hill County Club is sold to the Southmark Pacific Corporation / Borrego Springs Development Corporation.
 
1995:  Rams Hill LLC auctions off 3000 acre country club, including 670 entitled lots and 1800 acres of raw land.

1999:  Larry Latham (Rams Hill LLC) purchases Rams Hill.
 
2002:  Western United Life Assurance Company purchases Rams Hill. see WULA Phase. San Diego's Douglas Wilson Cos. was appointed by the bankruptcy court as receiver and began operating the property in October 2002.
 
2004:  Borrego Investors LLC, an affiliate of GH Capital, bought Rams Hill out of receivership September 8 for about $15 million. (see Rams Hill is purchased by GH Capital of Sherman Oaks, CA), and rebuilds the entire golf course, renovates the clubhouse & redesigns the entrance at a total cost in excess of 65 million dollars.  The county club is renamed Montesoro Golf & Social Club.  This was the most expensive ambitious project in the history of Borrego Springs.  Ref:  SignOn San Diego | Wiles Group
 
2005: The Wiles Group (TWG), project manager for the $80 million redevelopment of Rams Hill which will turn Borrego Springs into one of the finest golf course communities in the west, has selected Gable-Cook-Schmid Public Relations (GCS) of San Diego as its agency of record, citing its extensive experience in developing successful programs for real estate development, land use and golf clients.
 
2007:  GH Capital purchases the Casa del Zorro in December from David Copley, spends more than 20 million dollars in renovations and changes the name to Borrego Ranch Resort & Spa.  Later that year the Stock Market nearly collapses.
 
2009:  GH Capital places Montesoro and Borrego Ranch Resort & Spa on the market for sale.  Oct 1 Notice is given to the employees that they may be terminated Nov 30 if there is not a buyer or new investors.  Ref: San Diego Reader    Termination date was later extended to Dec 31 & then Jan 8, 2010.
 
2010:  Borrego Ranch Resort & Spa, and the Montesoro Clubhouse Closes on January 8, 2010.  Rams Hill Community Association (RHCA) Office moves from 1672 Las Casitas to the Entrance Kiosk Building to cut costs.  Montesoro Golf Course re-opens as a public course in November, 2010.
