Hu to design new Rams Hill clubhouse

The Wiles Group (TWG), project manager for the $80 million redevelopment of Rams Hill in Borrego Springs, has selected Bing Hu of the Scottsdale, Ariz., architecture firm H & S International as the designer of a new 33,000-square-foot clubhouse for the two new championship golf courses planned for the site.

Hu has designed buildings all over the world, from Beijing to Hawaii as well as in his home state. He has also designed award-winning golf clubhouses including the Chiricahua and Apache clubhouses in Desert Mountain, Ariz., and The Hideaway clubhouse in La Quinta, Calif. Since 1998, he has won nearly two dozen Gold Nugget Awards for architectural excellence from the American Institute of Architects.

Michael Wiles, president of TWG, said Hu was selected because of his philosophy of creating spaces that are at one with their natural surroundings -- a trademark of students of Frank Lloyd Wright, which Hu was.

The first new Rams Hills course, designed by golf course architect Tom Fazio, is scheduled to open in January 2006.

"The driving force in our development plans is to create a golf course community that complements the small-town character of Borrego Springs and the natural beauty of the surrounding De Anza Borrego State Park," Wiles said.

Rams Hill is owned by Borrego Investors LLC and will be developed as a joint venture between GH Capital and The Wiles Group
